Tone, (Theobald) Wolfe
(20 ene. 1763, Dublín, Irlanda–19 nov. 1798, Dublín).

Republicano y rebelde irlandés. En 1791 cofundó la Sociedad de irlandeses unidos para trabajar por la reforma parlamentaria. Organizó una convención católica de delegados elegidos que obligó al parlamento a aprobar la ley de desagravio católico en 1793. En 1796, con el intento de derrocar al gobierno inglés en Irlanda, convenció a Francia de que enviara una fuerza invasora de 43 buques y 14.000 hombres, pero las naves fueron dispersadas por una tormenta. Nuevamente presentó un plan de invasión de Irlanda en París en octubre de 1797, pero el principal líder militar francés, Napoleón Bonaparte, demostró escaso interés. En 1798, con sólo 3.000 hombres, reintentó una invasión; capturado y sentenciado a la horca, se suicidó.
